Big, Big NCTE Contest – You Won’t Want To Miss Out November 15, 2009

Next week I’m leaving for NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English). This year it is in Philadelphia.  Great location for a great conference.  I’ve decided since I get great books while I’m there and since I’m running out of room at home I’ll have a contest.  If you are interested in seeing what I’ve received and did last year at NCTE, check out these posts:

NCTE Adds To My Addiction

NCTE Day 3

ALAN Conference Day 1

ALAN Conference Day 2 / Heading Home

So, in order to spread the wealth I’m providing this opportunity.  I’m not promising what you’ll get since I don’t even know yet, but ARCs will definitely be abundance.  Plus, author autographs are also a possibility along with a variety of swag!

I’m going to take THE STORY SIREN’S lead on this and use a Google Form for the registration.  On top of the privacy issue Kristi brought up, I think it is also a great way to ensure people leave what you ask for in a contest entry. Many times I have asked people to leave email addresses or other information and they don’t.  I’m also going to take Alea at POP CULTURE JUNKIE suggestion and close comments so people won’t accidently post here instead of using the form.  So, without further ado…

Here is what I’m going to be asking for:

Name
Email Address
What ARC/yet-to-be-published book you’ve been dying for
Do you follow my blog?
(If so, extra entry)

I will be choosing 3 winners.

Here are the prizes:

1) Prize pack of ARCs (unknown titles)

2) Author Autographed book (published or ARC)

3) Variety of swag

Be sure to check back next week starting Friday, November 20th for daily updates.  I’ll also be using Twitter to keep people updated so you can always follow me there. http://www.twitter.com/kperry

Oh! Sorry, but only open to US Residents.  I just can’t afford overseas shipping.  WOW!!

Are you ready?  If so, head on over to the REGISTRATION FORM and enter. Contest will close on Tuesday, November 24th at Midnight (the day I come home.)  Winners will be announced sometime Thanksgiving week.

winnerI finished THE IRON KING by Julie Kagawa last night at 10:10 p.m.  So, I’d like to congratulate YAN from Books By Their Cover.  She guessed I would finish the book on October 30th at 9:00 p.m.  But, that’s not all.  Congrats also go out to Erica from The Book Cellar.  She wins a collection of swag.  I want to say thanks to everyone for participating.  I’ll probably do it again so be prepared.  I love reading anyway, but with people guessing my “end time,” it almost seemed like a game.

The Iron KingDo you want to win an ARC of THE IRON KING by Julie Kagawa?  If so, this is your chance.

Meghan Chase has never fit in at her small-town high school, and now, on the eve of her 16th birthday, she discovers why. When her half brother is kidnapped, Meghan is drawn into a fantastical world she never imagined–the world of Faery, where anything you see may try to eat you, and Meghan is the daughter of the summer faery king. Now she will journey into the depths of Faery to face an unknown enemy . . . and beg the help of a winter prince who might as soon kill her as let her touch his icy heart. The Iron King is the first book in the Iron Fey series.

So, what do you have to do to win?  Well, you see, I’m not finished with the book yet.  I’m on page 196 out of 363.  That means I’m 53% finished.

In order to win, you need to:

1) live in the United States,

2) GUESS what DATE and TIME I’ll finish the book,

and 3) leave your email address in the post.  (The TIME will be used in case more than one person chooses the correct DATE.)

I also have some swag to give away so, if you want to be eligible to win some fun stuff, do some of the following:

+1 entry for posting about the contest on your blog (sidebar is okay)

+1 entry for tweeting about it

+1 entry for following Karin’s Book Nook in a Reader or by Email. (Links are in sidebar under my vCard)

+1 entry for becoming a fan of Karin’s Book Nook on Facebook.

+1 entry to following me on Twitter (kperry)

Important – You need to be sure to include links in your posts to show your Contest Post and Twitter Post.

If you become a fan on Facebook or start following on Twitter be sure to give me your username so I can find you.

Have fun guessing. I can’t wait to see who wins.

These judges will whittle the top 20 down to five, and each of the five winners will be provided commentary on their submissions.

NOVEMBER IS NaNoWriMo
In honor of
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.org)—an international event where aspiring novelists are encouraged to write an entire novel in 30 days—entries for the YA Novel Discovery Contest will be accepted from 12:01am (ET) November 1 until 11:59pm (ET), November 30, 2009.

For an inside look at what the judges will be looking for, participants can refer to Writing Great Books for Young Adults by Regina Brooks. There is no minimum word count for the submission. Only online entries will be accepted. And only one submission per person.

I’m participating in NaNoWriMo (my profile name is kperry) and plan to submit my title and 250 words!!  Even though 250 words is so short!!! ACK!

*Another* Another Faust ContestDaniel and Dina Nayeri

Hi everyone. Dina and I are about to kick off a month-long tour for our book, Another Faust, and we want to do it by announcing a contest! We are looking for the most promising writers out there (that’s YOU). And then we want to showcase their work, so that all of the Internet can bask in their awesome writing might (and, you know, give them prizes).

HERE’S HOW IT GOES.

We want you to write your own short story, re-imagining of the Faustian Bargain. (For inspiration, check out Bedazzled, Simpsons “Tree House of Horrors IV,” and The Little Mermaid). It can be about anything you like (but let’s keep it PG-13, and under 3,000 words), and it’s open to everyone.

All you have to do is send your entry to dviergutz@gmail.com before January 31.

Rules and details can be found here:

http://www.danielanddina.com/site/2009/10/writing-contest-create-another-another-faust/

Make sure to read them so you don’t get DQed.

And the winner gets all kinds of sweetness:

A signed copy of Another Faust

A handwritten deleted scene

A featured article & interview on our site

An author’s galley of the sequel Another Pan

Though we’ll feature the top five on our site for comments, the judging WON’T happen by popular vote (so basically, we don’t care which contestant has the most friends). Dina and I will personally read them.

So, spread the word! Tweet, retweet, forward, thread, spread, embed this post.

Good luck!
