What did everyone else get?

I made it back from Texas alive.  I didn’t know if that was going to happen with the way I felt through the entire trip.  So, here is the quick recap:

TUESDAY

Woke up early and packed and headed to the airport with my traveling buddy.  I felt okay.  I was looking forward to seeing Cassandra Clare’s session that afternoon.  Arrived in Houston with no problem and got to the convention center and registered just fine.  Found our location and waited for the fun to begin.

The session was great!  We also heard Nancy Werlin, Justine Larbalestier, Margo Rabb, and Patrick Jones speak. 

After the session we went to the hotel and checked in and got something for dinner.  Then we settled in for an evening of reading. I was finishing COFFEEHOUSE ANGEL (which I totally ended up loving!).

WEDNESDAY

Woke up at a reasonable hour and went to the conference center.  I had a plan.  I had looked ahead to see which publishers would be at the conference and located their booth number.  I also wrote down a wish list of books that I hoped each publisher would be giving away.  It definitely paid to do this.  I came away with most of my list, and definitely all of the ones I was really wanted.  My shoulder was sore by the time I got done carrying around my bag of books at the end of the day.  As far as sickness goes?  I had been enjoying the cycle of spiking fever/take Tylenol/fever breaks/Karin sweats like a crazy person all day.  I had to carry around a washcloth from the hotel room to wipe my face.  I had to pull my hair in a pony tail because it was just too gross without it.  All this on the day I was going to get my picture taken with Cassandra Clare.  I admit, I’m not completely photogenic on a good day, but this was just pitiful!

Here are some of my favorite books I got that day:

THURSDAY

Felt so bad that I couldn’t even make it the whole day at the conference.  My poor roommate had to drive me back to the hotel after the first session.  I crawled right into bed and went to sleep.  I didn’t get up until 7PM that night.  Stayed awake a few hours and then slept the whole night with no problem.

FRIDAY

The day I got to go home.  First we got up and packed and checked out of the hotel.  I was just going from minute to minute. Hoping I could keep going.  We went to the conference center and saw Meg Cabot speak.  (I was too far away to get a good picture)  She is so cute.  Just like she looks on her website.  She is just so bubbly and funny.  Even though I felt awful she had me laughing.  I wonder how much her school visits cost?  HA!  Anyway, went to lunch after the conference and then made it to the airport.  I considered it a success.  I just closed my eyes on the plane and kept thinking about home.

SATURDAY

Went to the doctor and got some antibiotics.  After a flu test and some chest xrays the doctor comes back with the generic diagnosis of bronchitis.  GRRRR.  With a fever like that????  Today is the first day I feel human again.  

Anyway, while I was gone I also rec’d some books in the mail.

So I’m kind of considering this my In My Mailbox post for the week as well since I was too out of it yesterday to post anything.  

I didn’t get my last General Exam question finished like I needed to since I was so sick so I’m hoping my advisor will look upon me with kindness and grant me a couple of extra days.  That is what I’ll be working on the rest of the day.  I’m glad to be back among the living though!

I had a slow week which isn’t a bad thing really since I have piles of books I need to be reading anyway.  But, it is always fun to open new packages and touch brand new books.  I suspect I have mail at work, but since it was Spring Break I didn’t go up to the building. So, I’ll have a lot to share in next week’s post.  Anyway, this week’s additions include:
